What started out as a casual skate along the Cape Cod Canal turned into an all time personal
distance skate record of 56.8 miles on May 19, 2003. Armed with a relatively new pair of Salomon SV3 and a warm
easterly sea breeze I started out on the spacious south side of the canal for the first 14.2 mile round trip. The
75F temps and reflective waters proved to be more sun than expected for springtime in New England causing moderate
sun burn by early afternoon.
The last three round trips were finished on the northern, more populated side of
the canal. With minor adjustments to the frame and only one wheel rotation I finished the trek in 6 hours and forty
five minutes, which included one half hour break inbetween the last three runs. At 5:45 PM the previous 42 mile record
set in 2000 and 2001 was put to rest.
Is the
A2A race
in the future? Hmmm, ... maybe.
